A development that answers current needs without harming opportunities for future generations

Sustainable development is not a choice

It is a way of life. As corporate citizen and fully-fledged member of Quebec society, we make sure that our decisions and actions are made in the best interest of this society, its economy and environment. In our current and future planning, our main focus is to make a true difference on the environmental, social and economical spheres through our concrete actions and decisions. In symbiosis with our Hamster banner, we endeavor to constantly improve and adopt tangible business practices that ensure the upholding of these three pillars:

Safeguard the environment

  • Prioritize products containing recycled materials and require full information disclosure from manufacturers on this subject
  • Reuse boxes for merchandise packaging
  • Use only recycled paper to fill boxes
  • Prioritize and promote green products in our catalog
  • Require a conformity letter from our suppliers that explains their mission regarding the environment and their green engagement
  • Print our publications on paper that upholds recognized environmental certifications (FSC, PEFC, SFI)
  • Gradually replace plastic bags with reusable bags.
  • Optimize transport
  • Avoid additional shipments when some products in an order are on back-order.
  • Manage several warehouses on a territory for rapid delivery and in order to reduce travel distance for delivery trucks.

Foster social cohesion

  • Fight against discrimination by applying the Code for Workplace Ethics
  • Ensure good work conditions by adapting to each employee's preferences
  • Foster local territory by prioritizing and promoting local products, suppliers and partners

Empty ink cartridges return program: Returned cartridges enable the training of guide dogs destined to visually impared or handicapped people or to children suffering from autism spectrum disorders.

MAMAN DION fundation partner

Every year we prepare more than 2000 boxes of school supplies that families in need can pick up at their local Hamster retailer. This is how we endorse the Maman Dion fundation and its mission of encouraging and maintaining academic success for underprivileged families.

Upholding a responsible economy

  • Recycle, recover and sell ecological products
  • Recover all empty cartridges and batteries
  • Offer a repair service for used equipment and electronic products
  • Implementation of a teleworking team who can accomplish their tasks from the comfort of their home, reducing commuting and costs associated with office space.
  • Implementation of a videoconference system and a remote support software in order to connect all our branches and reduce commuting in the case of meetings and internal training.
